☀    ☀    ☀ - Peugeot 2008 TamworthPeugeot 2008 – Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

The all-new Peugeot 2008 Crossover has demonstrated the capability of its pioneering Grip Control enhanced traction technology in the most dramatic way – by driving up and down an indoor snow slope. During the recent launch event for UK media, the driving route took journalists out of the Summer sun and into the rather cooler climate of the popular Snowdome in Tamworth, Staffs.

Once inside, guests discovered examples of the stylish new compact crossover parked at the base of the 170-metre ski slope. First they took the wheel of a 2008 without Grip Control and struggled to get more than a few metres on the hard-packed snow. Swapping to a car with Grip Control, which is standard on Allure and Feline trim levels with 1.6 petrol and diesel engines, the contrast in performance couldn’t have been more stark. Thanks to the enhanced traction control and all season tyres – a feature of every car with Grip Control – the Peugeot 2008 drove straight to the top of the slope.

The average gradient of 27 degrees coupled with a 90-degree corner posed no problems. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, drivers were even encouraged to perform an emergency stop on the descent. The car’s advanced traction system brought it quickly to a halt with the minimum of fuss. The launch of the Peugeot 2008 Crossover was the largest media driving event ever staged at Tamworth Snowdome, the UK’s first indoor show slope when it opened in 1994.

Grip Control is designed for customers with active lifestyles who drive on a wide range of surfaces and occasionally need extra traction. It is patented technology from the PSA Group, Peugeot’s parent company. Acting through components which are already fitted to the vehicle, Grip Control works on the car’s front wheels to boost driver confidence and safety. Standard mode is designed for normal road conditions and where there is a low level of skidding. However, the driver can switch away from Standard mode using the dial located in the centre console, opting instead for Snow, Off-Road, Sand or ESP Off. The result is a level of performance usually associated with 4×4 off-roaders.

The all-new Peugeot 2008 Crossover with Grip Control costs from £16,195 on the road. The Peugeot 2008 Crossover range starts from £12,995 on the road and is available in UK dealerships from the 18th July. Demand is anticipated to be as strong as it has been for the much acclaimed 208, which has already secured over 35,000 UK orders during its first full year.

Subaru UK has announced today a mouth-watering £2,300 price reduction on the Subaru XV, making one of the most robust and economical compact crossovers even more affordable. The price reduction, which has been possible due to a more favourable exchange rate between Pound Sterling and the Japanese Yen, applies to every model in the Subaru XV range, and allows motorists to drive away in a new XV from just £18,995.

With much more than just school-run appeal, the XV is noted for its robust practicality, performance and excellent fuel economy and was named ‘SUV of the Year’ by the judges on 4×4 Magazine and has won industry recognition for its design and safety in Japan and the USA. In Europe, it was Switzerland’s best-selling car in August last year, toppling the VW Golf from top spot. The Subaru XV is unusual in benefiting from permanent All-Wheel Drive as standard. Despite this, the 2.0D returns a very competitive 50.4mpg (combined cycle) and 146g/km CO2.  Its high ground clearance contributes to the car’s genuine off-road ability, while Subaru’s trademark low centre of gravity aids the car’s sporty handling on all roads.

Standard specification is generous across the range with all cars being fitted with front, side, curtain and knee airbags, front passenger airbag auto-disable, 17-inch alloy wheels, daytime running lights, heated front seats, wiper de-icers, CD player and a comprehensive  Multi-Function Display. The popular SE model also gets cruise control, folding door mirrors, dual-zone air conditioning, rear view safety camera, Bluetooth, and rear privacy glass.

The XV’s five-star Euro NCAP crash safety rating combines with 90% rating for child occupant protection – the best in its segment –  as well as the highest possible rating in the USA’s demanding Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tests.  A five-year, 100,000 mile warranty completes the package for buyers. Haydn Davies, Marketing Director, Subaru UK, said: “Compared to rivals, the XV is one of the most robust and most economical cars available. We have taken the first opportunity to re-price the model given the changes to exchange rates and believe the  price reduction now gives customers the greatest value for their money.”

__________________________________________________________________________________ - Subaru WRX conceptEuropean premiere for Subaru WRX concept in Frankfurt

The Subaru WRX concept vehicle – first shown earlier this year at the New York International Auto Show – will make its European debut at the 65th Frankfurt Motor Show on Tuesday 10 September. The WRX concept hints at the final look of the next-generation WRX, a bold and muscular design giving it a strong on-street presence.

Lower, wider and sleeker than previous models, the WRX Concept places an even greater focus on sharp handling, with a low centre of gravity and Subaru’s famous All-Wheel Drive system. Subaru trademark design cues including a pronounced bulge on the bonnet – accompanied by the classic WRX bonnet scoop – which provides clearance for a turbocharged engine and intercooler, while also aiding engine cooling. The old model is now sold out and the decision was taken earlier this year not to import further volumes.

The new-for-2014 Subaru WRX production car, while not confirmed for the UK market, is under consideration.  Changing market conditions has allowed Subaru UK to re-examine the feasibility of bringing the new car into Britain. The WRX concept will be joined on the stand at Frankfurt by the Subaru VIZIV concept, representing Subaru’s future design direction and vision for technological innovation.
