Volvo announces pricing for new V40 R-Design and Cross Country variants
Volvo Car UK has today announced the pricing of the all-new Volvo V40 R-Design and Volvo V40 Cross Country. Starting from £22,295 and £22,595 respectively, Volvo is now able to offer both a more sports inspired and a more rugged looking take on the V40.
The V40 R-Design has taken cues from its R-Design stable mates in the rest of the range, with a re-profiled front bumper and rear diffuser, five-spoke 17″ Ixion wheels, silver matt door mirrors, unique R-Design embossed nubuck upholstery, sports floor mats, sports steering wheel and pedals. In addition to this, as standard, the V40 R-Design benefits from a TFT crystal display screen with unique blue colouring, illuminated gear-knob, unique R-Design aluminium trim and vertical LED day-running lights.
Those wanting the ultimate in sports luxury can upgrade to the R-Design Lux, complementing the standard specification with active bending xenon headlights with cleaning system, rain sensor, leather-faced R-Design embossed seats, cruise control, keyless start and rear theatre lighting.
The V40 R-Design is available in the striking launch colour, Rebel Blue, unique to R-Design, along with six other colours.
Prices start from £22,295 for the D2 R-Design, still benefiting from class leading CO2 emissions of 94g/km, up to the T5 Geartronic R-Design Lux Nav, available from £31,390.
The V40 Cross Country is Volvo’s answer to those customers that want a small 5-door hatchback but with a more ‘off-road’ and rugged look. As standard, the Cross Country SE is offered with auto folding door mirrors with ground lights and black mirror covers, 16″ alloy wheels, rain sensor, textile/T-Tec upholstery, tread plates and silver roof rails.
The Cross Country can be further enhanced by specifying the Cross Country Lux version. This includes the ample specification of the SE, plus leather-faced upholstery, active bending xenon headlights, 17″ alloy wheels, LED day-running lights, rear reading and theatre lighting.
The V40 Cross Country is available from £22,595 for the D2 Cross Country SE, up to the T5 Geartronic Cross Country Lux Nav with All-Wheel Drive, from £33,875.

Nissan slashes Micra prices – now from £7,995
Nissan has made its Micra supermini range even better value for money by bringing the price down to a city car-rivalling £7,995.
Despite the low price it still packs big car equipment with Bluetooth as standard as well as an auxiliary input for MP3 players, even on the entry-level Visia. It is also available for just £99 per month on a PCP deal.
And the value story doesn’t end there; further up the range, the Acenta model is now £9,995. On top of the Visia’s equipment it adds 15-inch alloys, air conditioning, front fog lamps and a leather steering wheel among other items. It is also available for just £119 per month.
The next rung on the Micra ladder is the Acenta Connect which has Nissan’s award-winning Connect touchscreen satnav system combined with Bluetooth for hands-free telephone calls and music streaming. The Acenta Connect costs £10,495 and is available for £129 per month.
The good news also extends to the most stylish member of the Micra range, the ELLE; a special edition produced with the world’s leading women’s magazine. In addition to the Acenta Connect spec, it has climate control, a glass roof, painted 15-inch alloy wheels and ELLE badging as standard. The ELLE is now just £11,195 and available for £139 per month too.
At the top of the range sits the flagship Micra Tekna, which adds a glass roof, parking space measurement, rear parking sensors, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers and climate control to the specification of the Acenta Connect. An extremely well-equipped car, it doesn’t come with a hefty price tag, costing just £11,545 and available from only £149 per month.
As well as taking advantage of these exceptionally low prices and deals, retail buyers can also benefit from three years’ low cost servicing and three years’ roadside assistance for just £199.
As before, the Micra range is available with two three-cylinder petrol engines: an 80PS 1.2-litre unit or a 98PS 1.2-litre supercharged DIG-S unit. SatNav and more sets VW’s new Passat Highline on its way
Volkswagen is boosting the popular Passat and Passat Estate ranges with the addition of a new model, the Highline, which replaces the best-selling SE model. Over the already generous equipment list of the Passat SE, the Highline adds an RNS 315 touchscreen satellite navigation unit, front and rear parking sensors, 2Zone climate control and stylish 17-inch ‘Sao Paolo’ alloy wheels. Together, they add £1,680-worth of value, yet the Passat Highline commands a premium of just £500 over the SE, with prices starting at £20,970 (RRP OTR) for the 1.4-litre TSI 122 PS.
The Passat and Passat Estate come as standard with a host of options to make driving safer and more comfortable, including a Driver Alert System that monitors for signs of fatigue, DAB digital radio and Bluetooth. The Passat Highline also features cruise control, a flat tyre indicator, auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support.
The RNS 315 touchscreen satellite navigation system, previously a £750 option, includes a full-colour screen and traffic monitoring. As with all media systems in the Passat, it also features a multi-device interface, to allow connection of MP3 players and iPods (there is also a built-in Bluetooth music streaming facility, for those who prefer wireless links).
Front and rear parking sensors, previously £430, offer both an audible and visual guide (via the screen of the RNS 315), and also mean that Volkswagen’s Park Assist system, which allows the Passat to park itself in spaces parallel or perpendicular to the road, is now available as a great-value £195 option.
A 2Zone climate control system (worth £500) allows precise control of the temperature of each side of the cabin, down to half-degree increments. The driver and front seat passenger simply select the desired temperatures and the system automatically regulates the heating, air conditioning and air flow to achieve these.
The Passat Highline and Passat Estate Highline are available with a range of engines including 1.4-litre TSI 122 PS and 1.8-litre TSI 160 PS petrols, and 1.6-litre TDI 105 PS and 2.0-litre TDI 140 PS diesels. Gearboxes include five- and six-speed manuals and six- and seven-speed DSG units. The Passat Highline can be ordered from Volkswagen Retailers now, with some vehicles in stock for immediate delivery. Chevrolet Cruze SW secures ‘the nod’ from Old Trafford
Chevrolet chose Old Trafford, home to Manchester United, as the venue to introduce the UK media to the new Cruze Station Wagon. It joins the already popular Hatchback model in the Chevrolet Cruze family.
“Success breeds success, which meant that launching the latest addition to Chevrolet’s biggest-selling model range was an ideal opportunity to showcase both the Cruze Station Wagon and the brand’s new partnership with one of the world’s most celebrated football clubs,” said Andy Higgins, Managing Director of Chevrolet UK.

Upon arrival at Old Trafford, Chevrolet’s VIP guests were met by Manchester United legends Dennis Irwin and Gary Pallister.
With the expert guidance of the two former players the guests were treated to a tour behind the scenes at Old Trafford, and an entertaining evening in which both men recounted stories from their long and successful careers on the pitch.

IAM launches winter driving campaign
Road safety charity the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) launches its winter driving campaign this week to help motorists prepare their cars and drive them safely this winter.
The campaign includes a website, drivingadvice.org.uk containing advice, traffic updates and weather forecasts. The IAM will also be publishing weekly news releases and driving tips in reaction to the winter weather as part of the campaign. This campaign comes in response to winter’s more dangerous driving conditions which cause an increase in accident rates:
* Slippery roads (due to weather) contributed to 13,420 road casualties in 2011, and related to 79 fatalities * Rain, sleet, snow or fog was the cause of 1,786 reported road casualties in 2011 * Travelling too fast for conditions was a contributing factor in 13,425 accidents in 2011 * The amount of rainfall during December 2011 was 34 per cent above the average for that time of year.
During February 2012, freezing rain fell across northern England causing treacherous conditions on roads and pavements; 100 road accidents were reported from Cumbria, and A&E departments dealt with hundreds of falls on icy pavements.
IAM chief executive Simon Best said: “The first thing you need to ask when the weather is bad is whether you need to travel, and if so, if there are alternatives to the roads. When you are on the road, be prepared to slow down and take extra care, particularly on bends and roads which are open to the elements. Our winter driving campaign will provide comprehensive advice and guidance for those who do decide to travel, keeping them as safe as possible.” _____________________________________________________________________________________
New Nissan concept for Sao Paulo Motor Show
The Sao Paulo Motor Show has been known to see some pretty-cutting edge vehicles and that trend is set to continue as Nissan has been talking about their big plans for a few weeks now. No one, besides the people at Nissan, are quite sure what to expect, but Nissan can’t stop raving about the new concept car that’s soon to come.
The new concept car is set to unveil a completely new and unique vehicle segment to the automotive community, which has many auto enthusiasts buzzing for its release. This vehicle is unique to the Sao Paolo show and will play a pivotal role in the future development of Brazil’s automotive environment.
This new vehicle is believed to help Nissan reach their sales goals in Brazil. In 2011 Nissan accounted for 2% of the Brazilian auto sales and they’re looking to raise that figure to 5% of new car sales by the year 2016. This seems like a real possibility as Nissan just built a new manufacturing facility in Resende, Brazil which is estimated to produce 200,000 units a year. The new facility will be open and operational starting in 2014.
Shiro Nakamura, Senior VP & CCO for Nissan Motor Company, talked about this said vehicle that will debut at the Sao Paolo Motor Show, stating that, “The show car will dazzle on two counts. It is a genuinely new and exciting concept, and it will explode with energetic design and impressive colour that fully express our impression toward the country. When our designers arrived in Brazil to start work on the project, they loved the vibrancy and passion of the country but were a little surprised in the rather conservative colours of the cars on the streets. They all seemed to be monochrome – silver or black. ŠKODA Yeti is officially the UK’s most reliable new car
Respected consumer brand Which? has revealed the ŠKODA Yeti is the most reliable car in the UK. In a survey completed by owners of 47,000 vehicles, the petrol-powered model ranked number one in the SUV/4×4 classes with a 98% reliability score. As that was the highest total of any class winner it was declared the overall champion. The ŠKODA Yeti diesel took sixth spot.
“All the owners who gave feedback in our survey said they hadn’t suffered a single breakdown in the previous 12 months, and annual repair bills averaged just £6 a year,” the Which? magazine stated.
