NEWS ➤ VW Beetle refreshed, new R-Line trim

29 Jul - 2017 VW Beetle 1

• Beetle prices start from £16,820.
• Sporty R-Line trim now available on the refreshed Beetle.

During its 65-year lifespan, the original Volkswagen Beetle achieved sales of 21,529,464 units (330,251 of which were cabriolets) – a truly amazing feat. Since its rebirth as the ‘New Beetle’ in 1998, a further million sales has brought the Beetle’s unique character to a new generation.

In 2011 the ‘New’ moniker was made redundant and the Beetle comprehensively redesigned.  Its new shape was lower, wider, had a longer bonnet and adopted a sportier, more masculine stance.

The latest iteration of the VW Beetle has again been refreshed, with styling changes that include sharpened lines for the front bumpers and larger openings around the indicator and fog light surrounds. - 2017 VW Beetle 4

Meanwhile, the new Beetle R-Line trim grade offers a more sporty bumper design unique to that model.  It features extra air intake openings along the upper edge of the bumper.

Inside, the new Beetle’s cabin has brighter instrument panel lighting, new dials and dash styling for the Design and R-Line models. New upholstery materials add further styling options. - 2017 VW Beetle 3

The new Beetle line-up see the R-Line trim grade replace the previous Sport trim level. The R-Line will be available with Volkswagen’s punchy 2.0-litre TDI 150PS diesel engine and a choice of either six-speed manual or six-speed DSG transmission.

The new Beetle R-Line also boasts sports suspension, 18-inch ‘Twister’ alloys and the unique new R-Line bumper. It is also available with the new 18-inch ‘Ashmie Adamantium’ alloys, at no extra cost. The Beetle R-Line comes with a body-coloured rear diffuser and chromed twin exhausts and a rear tailgate spoiler. - 2017 VW Beetle 5

Standard on the R-Line is ‘2Zone’ climate control, ambient lighting, front and rear parking sensors and cruise control.

The latest Beetle has a wide array of personalisation options. Outside, two new pearlescent-effect colours are available: ‘Bottle Green’ and ‘White Silver’. The interior colours can also be changed, with the dash centre console and steering wheel inserts of the Design trim now being offered (£125) in a choice of Sandstorm Yellow, Tornado Red, Habanero Orange or Pure White.
